The Simple How-to Guide to Chocolate Pudding Pie

If you’re like me, a chocolate fix is almost always on my mind. My grandma used to make Chocolate Pudding Pie for holidays and family gatherings so this particular dessert holds sentimental value and fills in that nagging sweet tooth of mine! This is a must-try guide for how to make a Chocolate Pudding Pie!

The best part is how budget friendly this dessert is! A pack of Jello brand pudding mix sells for around $1 at most grocery stores and you can make your own crust or save even more time by buying pre-made crust!

Step 1: Prepare the Crust

Most pudding packages have the right serving size for a 9 inch pie plate. I have found I prefer to make my own pie crust, but my grandmother substitutes pre-made crusts for her special pies so that’s always a satisfactory alternative!

Once you have your crust dough rolled out into an even layer about 1/8inch in thickness, transfer it to your 9 inch pie plate and gently press the center and sides down so it forms into the pie plate. Use a sharp knife or kitchen scissors to trim excess dough and then fold the rough edges underneath and crimp the rim of the dough.

Now is the time to pre-bake your crust! Be sure you have poked sufficient holes in your crust to allow air to escape or else your pie crust will develop air pockets in the dough.

Step 2: Prepare the Filling

While you wait for the crust to bake read over your package directions for your pudding pie filling mix! Most packages just require a few cups of cold milk and a minute of whisking and you will have perfectly delicious pudding filling!

The best thing to do is prepare the filling when you remove the crust from the oven so it has a chance to cool for a few minutes before you transfer your pudding mix to it.

Step Three: Refrigerate and Let the Filling Set

Once you have filled your crust with the pudding filling mix, allow it to set in the fridge. Instant pudding mixes will be ready in minutes! Others may take a bit longer to set, but that’s a small price to pay for delicious chocolatey goodness!
